To show file attributes in Windows Explorer in Windows 98, go to the View menu and choose Folder Options and select the View tab, and put a check-mark next to Show file attributes in Detail View.

In Windows ME, right-click on the gray bar above the file listings. Click to put a check-mark next to the Attributes item. Sometimes these options are not present.

If they are not, you can turn it on using this registry edit:

  1. Start the Registry Editor by going to Start > Run and type regedit and then click OK.
  2. Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced
  3. Double-click the entry ShowAttribCol and change the value from 0 to 1. If the entry ShowAttribCol doesn't exist, you can create it by going to the Edit menu, and choosing New, then DWORD Value.

Restart your computer to see the changes.
