If you don't use your CD-ROM drive very much, your PC might be assigning memory for its cache. Here's how to reclaim that memory.

  1. Right click on My Computer
  2. Choose Properties
  3. Choose the Performance tab and click File System
  4. Select the CD-ROM tab
  5. Note how much memory you are assigning to the CD-ROM cache and reduce it to regain more memory.

Note: The minimum is 64KB (No read-ahead selected; slider on Small). The maximum is 1238KB (Quad-speed 4X or higher; the slider on Large).

To free up even more memory, I recommend a program called Memory Optimizer Pro.
