Books from Cyberwalker Fun Facts:
Travel
Planning Online for Dummies:
This book teaches you how to use the Web to book a vacation. From using
on-line travel agents to finding hotel accommodations. It also shows you
how to check weather reports, learn about a destination city from the
locals and take advantage of special travel offers available only to Web
users.
Business
@ the Speed of Thought:
Microsoft CEO Bill Gates says a digital nervous system, a network that
unifies an entire company's operations, is the future. And information
is power. This is wisdom he offers among other things. This one looks
like a bit of a buzzword-filled snoozer, but as usual it will be required
reading if only to authoritatively pooh pooh Gates.
PC
Dads Guide to Raising a Computer Smart Parent:
Mark Ivey and Ralph Bond are two real dads and senior managers at Intel
Corporation who are family computing experts. Since 1996, they have helped
millions of parents and teachers better understand technology through
nationwide workshops, TV appearances and newspaper articles, teaching
today'sgeneration of parents a new set of parenting skills for the digital
age.
In their new book they offer parental advice on a range of topics, such
as raising a computer-smart daughter; balancing a child's use of games
and educational programs; learning the software and Web site rating system
for cybersafety; kid-proofing your PC; and making your PC kid-friendly.
Search
Engines for the World Wide Web:
This book teaches you how to search the Web effectively. It's a Visual
QuickStart guide that uses pictures instead of long explanations to teach
you how to use the World Wide Web.
Using
the Internet Smarter and Faster:
Here's an Internet manual that matches its title. It's smartly written
and a fast read. Brooke Broadbent teaches you all kinds of little tricks
on optimizing your use of the Internet including what those Web browser
errors are when it fails to find a page. Broadbent is an Ottawa-basedauthor
and a heck of a guy. We chatted briefly via e-mail. Seems his life mission,
like mine, is to teach the world about computers and make those stomach
flip flops go away every time an error message pops up.
The
Age of Spiritual Machines - When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence:
This excellent book talks about the development of faster computers next
century that will eventually equate and supercede the power of the human
brain. It predicts a future where technology and humans may become indistinguishable.
Crystal
Fire:
Crystal Fire looks at the invention of the transistor and the birth of
the information age. The book, by Lillian Hoddeson and Micheal Riordan,
is a thrilling history of the transistor, its inventors and effect on
world economies.
Computer
Crime:
This book is for those who need to understand, investigate, and prosecute
computer crimes of all kinds. This book discusses computer crimes, the
criminals, and laws and profiles the computer criminal, using techniquesdeveloped
for the FBI and other law enforcement agencies. But it'll also be of interest
to the techno-curious. Published by my favorite tech book publisher O'Reilly
and Associates who write great how-to programming and reference books.
Barbarians
Led By Bill Gates:
This story of the building of Bill Gates' Microsoft empire reveals inside
stories about the development of Windows, the 1988 Apple v. Microsoft
lawsuit and Gates' amazing talents as a marketeer and businessman. Microsoft
insider Marlin Eller tells the story as only a former Microsoft employee
could.
Expert
Guide to Windows 98:
If you think you're a Windows 98 expert or want to be one, this book by
Mark Minasi, Eric Christiansen, Kristina Shapar might find its way onto
your reading list. The Amazon review says it takes you to guruhood fast.
It is designed for people who are comfortable with Windows 3.1 or 95.
Lots of expert advice and undocumented tips on installing, getting started
and troubleshooting.
Future
Talk - The Changing Wireless Game:
Future Talk looks into the dynamic future of wireless telecommunications
and the many opportunities it will usher with it. This is a non-technical
book that provides a detailed, up-to-date look at the ever-changing wireless
industry and its impact on our world.
DVD
Demystified:
DVD Demystified is one of the better books out there on the new data storage
technology. Author Jim Taylor looks at covers DVD in consumer-electronics
as well as on the computer. Heoffers a general overview as well as the
nitty gritty details of the technology.
The
Millennium Bug - How to Survive the Coming Chaos:
Michael S. Hyatt says the outlook for the year 2000 is grim. Hyatt describes
an industrialized world brought to its knees by Y2K-related computer failures.
He advises that you start stockpiling fresh water now and that you learn
to hunt and prepare game as soon as you can.Cyberwalker is booking his
trip to Hawaii now.
The following books were on
