If your business is shopping for a cordless
phone, the Gigaset 2415 from Siemens may have a few options
to make it stand out against the rest.
Its biggest selling point is probably the fact that it runs
on 2.4 gigahertz digital cordless technology. In comparison,
most other cordless phones run at 900 megahertz, a frequency
almost two-thirds lower. The result is a better signal with
less interference.
Another interesting innovation is that you can purchase additional
handsets to use with your Gigaset 2415. It's great to be able
to walk around the office with your cordless phone -- but how
many times have you heard the phone ring and had to scramble
to find it?
Additional handsets provide the convenience of having more than
one portable handset without having to buy another phone. Each
handset is equipped with a three-line, back-lit screen that
works with caller ID, a call log and other built-in features.
This phone is much thinner than most, doesn't have an antenna
and is straight as a board. In fact, if you were to ignore the
back-lit screen, you might confuse it with a television remote
control.
You can add numbers to and recall them from a phone directory
and change settings on an individual handset or on the phone's
base. You can also use the handsets as a small intercom system
to page anyone near a handset.
Each additional handset is $99 US ($149 Canadian), which is
not cheap, but this is about half as much as buying another
phone.
While the handset is the Gigaset 2415's selling feature, the
base of the unit also scores for functionality. It is loaded
with a digital answering machine that can hold up to 22 minutes
of recorded messages. There is a panel of buttons on the base
for operating the answering machine but you can also access
it from any handset.
At $169 US ($255 Canadian), the Gigaset 2415 is more expensive
than some other cordless phones. Is it worth the higher cost?
If you need an answering machine and like the multiple handset
idea enough to invest in a few, this phone is hard to beat.
But if your old cordless phone gave you a clear signal you may
not appreciate the Gigaset 2415's better signal quality. If
you don't need the ultimate in sound clarity or a phone that
takes messages -- and don't want extra handsets, look for a
cheaper model.

Comments: The 2.4-GHz frequency of the Siemens Gigaset
2415 cordless phone provides unbeatable clarity and being able
to purchase additional handsets can translate into real convenience.
These selling points, in addition to the inclusion of a built-in
answering machine, mean a higher price, however, which may be
worth it only if you need the extras.
